Removing old wall mounted toothbrush holder

There are times when you want to remove your old wall mounted toothbrush holder from the wall, such as during bathroom remodelling. Whether you are looking to use a new holder or you reuse the one being removed, removing without causing damages to both the holder and the wall is not too difficult at all. No matter which type you have, a tile mounted toothbrush holder or one that’s screwed into the wall. Just follow these simple steps:

Tools needed:
- Screwdriver
- Hair dryer
- Putty knife
- Utility knife

For screwed wall toothbrush holder
1. Find the screws on the holder. They are usually located at the corners.
2. With the right screwdriver, remove the screws and make sure you support the holder at all times. Most of the time these holder use Phillips screws.
3. Be aware that the toothbrush holder may fall without exerting any force to pull. Otherwise, pull it carefully to take it out of the wall.

For tiled wall toothbrush holder
1. Use a hair dryer to soften the grout and cut the grout with a utility knife. Try your best to remove as much of it as possible even though you probably won’t get everything out. We want to make it easy to remove the toothbrush holder.
2. With a putty knife, slide under the toothbrush holder. You may need to exert some force here.
3. Advance the putty knife around the toothbrush holder and try to lever it up a bit. Keep moving around the holder until the putty knife can go no further.
4. Now move the holder up and down until it comes off the wall.

Note:
- If the holder won’t come off for the second method, it’s most like because it’s mounted with mortar. In which case, you would need to break the holder and chip the pieces away.
- Safety goggles are highly recommended because the holder may break or chip.
